Mrs. Lauren Burgard, SBIES 4th grade teacher, applied for and received a First Energy STEM Grant to purchase weather equipment for her classroom. She will use the funds to purchase 12 Thames & Kosmos Climate and Weather kits. This will allow the students to work in pairs. They will be using them during their Weather Unit. These hands on kits will allow students to simulate Earth's rotation and revolution to learn how the sun affects the weather daily and seasonally. They can explore the hydrologic cycle to learn about humidity, clouds, and precipitation. Mrs. Burgard plans to incorporate these kits into their textbook reading. Instead of just reading about weather, the students will be able to model and demonstrate some of the 2-D images from the textbook with this 3-D kit.
